Mel launched her brand new show ~

Unforgettable: A Tribute to Natalie Cole

The daughter of vocal legend Nat King Cole, Natalie got her musical start meeting jazz icons like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra in her father's parlour. She also inherited his angel eyes and his velvet-smooth crossover sound. Selling over 30 million records worldwide and winning nine GRAMMY awards; singer, songwriter and performer Natalie Cole has proven to be one of the most beloved performers of all time with a career that spanned close to three decades. Effortlessly blending jazz and pop with her ever-soulful approach Natalie Cole was an artist who brought sensitivity, sass, swing, and soul to every cut. A song stylist, she moved freely and adeptly between jazz, R&B and gospel, creating a seamless fusion approach all her own.

Tonight, Mel Searle and her band will showcase Cole's enduring artistry. Featuring songs like the gospel influenced joy bomb of “This Will Be”; the funk influenced groove of “Sophisticated Lady”; the scatting whoosh of “Mr. Melody”; a sassy hit cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac” and the sustained elegance of “Unforgettable.” These and many other standards performed by both Natalie and her father Nat King Cole promise to make this show one not to be missed.

Ella Fitzgerald, whose career spanned more than five decades, was one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time.Join Mel Searle and her band as she traces Ella’s fascinating journey and performs scintillating interpretations of the songs that made Ella famous.“If Ella Fitzgerald was the greatest American singer, it was in part because she could turn any song into an oxygen rush of bouncing melody that reached the listener’s ears as pure, untroubled joy. It’s not just that her singing is beautiful. It is also liberating, transporting us into a realm of pleasure beyond all barriers, whether of race and age, of jazz and pop, of high art and low, or even, when she floats into scat, of language.” Frank Rich, New York Times, 1996With an innate talent for vocal improvisation and an exquisite vocal warmth and depth of tone, Mel's vocals are luminescent and empathetic… her interpretation of the “Ella experience” is definitely one not to be missed!
